2020 EUROPEAN FAIR PLAY DIPLOMA (Individuals) made under the auspices of the European Olympic Committees goes to VALENTIN PEREGLIN (CRO)
During the scoring of a 50m round on the 2nd competition day on the ХХ International Crossbow-Shooting Union – IAU World Championship held in Ulyanovsk 2019 a field judge made unintentional mistake of adding Valentina Pereglin two additional points (9 instead of 7).. As a result, Valentina was ranked 2nd instead of 4th in the Absolute Women category at 50m. On the request of Valentina, the IAU President and Executive Committee members considered the possibility of returning the silver medal to the next ranked Ina Schmidt (GER) and awarding Melanie Ebend (GER) with the bronze medal. The members of the Executive Committee eventually accepted the request as an act of justice governing the IAU rules.
«The European Fair Play Diploma was such a beautiful surprise for me. I want to thank my parents again for teaching me by their own example that the most important thing is to act fairly. I think that this diploma is a great opportunity to show the world the atmosphere in our sport, the values we cherish and the way we treat each other. I can’t wait for the award ceremony to present IAU and crossbow sport in the best possible way» – summed up Valentina Pereglin
