OLY Biserka Vrbek (CRO)

Biserka Vrbek is a Croatian sports shooter and a prominent figure in international sports governance. Born in 1959, she first gained recognition as an athlete representing Yugoslavia at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, where she competed in the women’s 50 metre rifle three positions event and achieved an impressive 7th place finish.
Her sports career is marked by notable accomplishments. At the 1986 World Championships in Suhl, she won a gold medal with the Croatian team in the 50-metre small bore rifle prone event. She also had remarkable success at the European Championships, securing:
- Gold in 1993 (representing Croatia, MK rifle 50 metres, 60 shots prone)
- Silver in 1983 (MK rifle 50 metres, 3×20 shots)
- Bronze in 1982 (MK rifle 50 metres)
Additionally, she earned a silver medal at the 1979 Mediterranean Games in the SMK rifle 50 metres (3×20 shots) discipline.
Following her distinguished athletic career, Vrbek pursued a degree at the Law School of the University of Zagreb, transitioning seamlessly into sports governance and administration. She became the Assistant Secretary General for Legal and General Matters of the Croatian Olympic Committee, where she has championed the principles of fairness, ethics, and integrity in sport.
Her expertise and dedication led to her involvement with the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF), where she serves as Chair of the ISSF Statutes and Eligibility Committee and is a member of the ISSF Council. Since 2009, she has also been part of the Executive Board of the European Shooting Confederation (ESC).
Vrbek has been a driving force in promoting fair play. Since 2006, she has been a respected member and leader of the Croatian Fair Play Committee. In 2012, she played a central role in organizing the Fair Play Congress in Poreč, co-hosted by the Croatian Fair Play Committee and the City of Poreč.
Her commitment extended to the international level when she was elected Vice-Chair of the European Fair Play Movement (EFPM). In this role, she has been instrumental in advancing values of honesty, respect, and fair competition across European sport.
Biserka Vrbek is widely admired not only for her professional achievements but also for her personal qualities. She is known for her friendly nature, readiness to help others, and she inspires those around her to be diligent, responsible, consistent and honest by embodying the ideals of sportsmanship and ethics. She successfully balances her personal and professional life, continuing to leave a lasting impact on the world of sport.
