Czech Republic
Květoslava Jeriová-Pecková is one of the most accomplished Czech cross-country skiers in history. Her athletic career includes three Olympic medals—a silver in the 4 × 5 km relay (1984) and two bronze medals in the 5 km (1980, 1984)—as well as a bronze medal in the 10 km event at the 1982 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships. She also recorded eight World Cup victories and triumphed at the Holmenkollen Ski Festival in 1981. These achievements, though remarkable in their own right, are just the beginning of her enduring legacy.
Following her retirement from elite competition at the age of 28, Květoslava turned her focus to education. She spent many years teaching physical education and geography at a high school in Litoměřice, where she inspired generations of students and colleagues. She is remembered not only for her expertise and professionalism but also for her warm and compassionate presence. Her consistent advocacy for diligence, fairness, and personal integrity made her a role model in both the classroom and the community.
In addition to her educational work, Květoslava has had a significant impact on the broader sporting world. As a member of the Executive Committee of the Czech Olympic Committee (2006–2020) and chairwoman of the Czech Fair Play Club, she worked tirelessly to uphold the values of ethics, respect, and sportsmanship. She represented the Czech Republic within the Council of Europe and the European Fair Play Movement, where she was elected to the Executive Committee at the 18th European Fair Play Congress in Verona. In 2021, she was honored with the Věra Čáslavská Award, recognizing her exceptional contribution to women in sport and to the Olympic Movement.
Throughout her life, Květoslava Jeriová-Pecková has embodied the principles of fair play, humility, and service to others. Her dedication to the ethical values of sport, her influence as an educator and leader, and her consistent efforts to uplift those around her make her an extraordinary candidate for this award.
She is a person of vision, character, and deep compassion—an individual whose life’s work continues to inspire athletes, educators, and communities throughout the Czech Republic and beyond.
