Manneken Pis Ratifies World Fair Play Day

Brussels – 19 May, 1:15 p.m.

Brussels is about to experience a moment that is at once symbolic, festive and rich in universal values.

On the occasion of the United Nations Resolution proclaiming 19 May of each year as World Fair Play DayManneken Pis, the most famous Bruxellois in the world and an emblematic ambassador of world folklore, will carry out a unique and symbolic ratification of this International Day of Fair Play.

To mark the event, Manneken Pis will wear his Fair Play costume, reminding us, with the humor and simplicity that define him, that Fair Play extends far beyond the realm of sport. It is a universal value of respect, fairness and benevolence — truly everyone’s business.

It is with great pride that the International Fair Play Committee (IFPC)Panathlon International, and the European Fair Play Movement (EFPM) share this initiative. As initiators and custodians of the spirit of the Resolution, they see in this strong and popular gesture a unique way to bring the message of Fair Play to the general public and the international community.

Through this symbolic act, Brussels reaffirms its role as a capital of human values, where folklore becomes the messenger of a universal commitment.
