2023 EUROPEAN FAIR PLAY MOVEMENT “FAIR PLAY FLAME” Award (to an athlete or a team under 18) goes to MARCUS ADAMEC (SVK)

The match between FC Petržalka and FC Košice in the 1st league U19 ended with a score of 0:4. In these competitions, the vast majority of players are amateurs who don’t earn any money from football. That’s why opportunities for corruption arise. Football players simply succumb to the chance of earning some easy money. It “only” takes influencing their own match. Before this match, a pair of Petržalka players approached a teammate with an offer of a significant financial reward in exchange for helping manipulate the match for betting purposes. This player was Marcus Adamec, the goalkeeper of FC Petržalka, who, in accordance with the rules, reported this offer to the club representatives. As a goalkeeper, Marcus could have relatively easily influenced the result, but he did not do it because he considers fair play to be the foundation of sports.
