2023 EUROPEAN FAIR PLAY MOVEMENT “FAIR PLAY FLAME” Diploma goes to SERRAVALLE MIDDLE SCHOOL 3rd B (SMR)
for act of humanism.
A beautiful initiative of solidarity by the boys, girls, and teachers of Class 3B at the State Middle School of Serravalle: “Twenty Letters for Lorenzo.”
This touching story involved us with admiration and a sense of shared compassion, as the class responded to the appeal of Francesca Ferri, the mother of 13-year-old Lorenzo, who was suffering from Ewing’s sarcoma. She had asked: “Anyone who would like to write him a letter—telling him about their daily life and what is happening outside—could help lighten Lorenzo’s thoughts. He loves receiving letters; he keeps them all and reads them often. His birthday is coming up on November 10, and it would be a wonderful gift.”
The entire class, together with their literature teacher Simona Benzi, sent Lorenzo 21 letters filled with stories, drawings, and messages of hope. Their goal was to bring joy, life, and encouragement to him during a difficult time.
This commendable gesture stands as a powerful example of solidarity through concrete actions, inspired by the values and ethical principles of fair play.
(Lorenzo later passed away and went to heaven.)
