2024 EUROPEAN FAIR PLAY MOVEMENT “FAIR PLAY FLAME” DIPLOMA (to an athlete or a team under 18) goes to LUMIR KRÁL (CZE)

The story happened at the 2024 World Junior Championships in Riyadh (UAE).
More than 100 young fencers competed for good results and medals in the men’s sabre individual
cadet event.

for a place in the last 16.
Kral dropped his saber during an action at 14:14 and the referee stopped the match. The Korean
was clearly not happy with the situation. Kral apologised, explaining that it had really been an
accident, that he hadn’t dropped his sabre deliberately to disrupt the Korean’s action. And he
offered the opponent the right of first attack on the restart of the match. This is an advantage in
fencing. The referee started the fight, the Korean boy attacked, Král was not able to avoid the
attack and lost the fight with 15:14 and was eliminated.
