2024 “EUROPEAN FAIR PLAY PLAQUE OF MERIT and DIPLOMA” under the auspices of the European Olympic Committees goes to MARIÁN JUNG (SVK)

On 4 June 2023, during the competitions in Žnina (Poland), Marián Jung,
multiple World and European champion, was involved in an accident with his
greatest rival, the Italian Giuseppe Rossi, the most successful representative of
this attractive sport. Their boats collided at high speed, causing a loss of thrust.
The boats went airborne, performed several somersaults and the drivers fell
headfirst into the water. Marián Jung got out of the boat immediately. Rossi,
however, was unconscious and remained under water for more than 6 minutes
after the accident. Thanks to the initiative and help of Marian Jung and his team,
he was pulled out from under the steering wheel and resuscitation began.
“I am convinced that if my colleagues and I had not reacted, if we had not helped the two drivers who
did not know how to turn the boat, Rossi would no longer be able to compete with us. …. It was a strange
feeling. You prepare yourself to do your best and in a moment everything changes. It was the biggest
victory of my life,” recalls Jung.
Rossi was in a coma for two weeks after the accident, but fortunately he recovered.
